I have BEng (94) and PhD (99) degrees from ANU; worked at ANU for 25 years as a fixed term post-doc, continuing academic (B,C, D and E), Director of School of Engineering (2010-14), Deputy Dean, ADR, ADE, AD for International Engagement; served in university committees – Acaemic Board, Education, and Research; co-supervised 40+ PhD students; developed education programs and courses; developed joint education partnerships with overseas universities to attract international students; secured funding from ARC and industry; collaborated with leading technology companies; known as one of the leading researchers in spatial audio and acoustic signal processing in the world. The above experience and wisdom give me multiple perspectives needed to serve for the ANU Council.
My vision for ANU is simple: we must put our people first to achieve our core mission of educating the next generation and pushing the boundaries of knowledge. I believe that the key reason for ANU’s reputational damage and financial difficulties is due to not practicing emotional intelligence (EQ) principles.
If elected, I will use my 34-year exposure and experience at ANU, insightful thinking, judgement and the natural ability of influencing others to work with fellow council members to help build a people-centric ANU that thrives.
