AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE SCREENING
In 1999, against the tense backdrop of the crumbling Israeli occupation in southern Lebanon, architect Yacov Rechter (Jon Voight) is commissioned to build a military memorial honouring fallen soldiers of the Christian South Lebanon Army. Tensions ignite when Yacov's idealistic architect son, Amon (Joseph Mazzello), challenges him to transforms the concept into a monument honouring all war victims – Christian and Muslim alike. As father and son clash over loyalty, complicity and art, their creative journey mirrors that of a nation divided, with the monument becoming a haunting symbol of a peace that never lasts.
Directed by Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, X-Men), Monument is a gripping historical drama which explores the personal cost of artistic integrity in a timely and thought-provoking manner. Notably, the film features a stirring orchestral score by composer Kenneth Lampl, which has been nominated for Feature Film Score of the Year at the 2026 APRA AMCOS Screen Music Awards.
The screening will be introduced by ANU Professor of Music and film composer Kenneth Lampl. Following the film, Ken will take part in a Q&A discussing the score, his creative process and the role of music in the film.
