Provost update – Nixon Working Groups
I am thrilled with the number of EOIs from academics, professional staff, and students, ready to join our Working Groups responding to the Nixon Review recommendations. Every College and Portfolio area is represented in the Groups.
We all want students and staff at ANU to have an outstanding experience which is safe, respectful, and intellectually and personally inspiring. A sincere thank you to every person who took the time to make an expression of interest, and especially those colleagues who have accepted a role as a Working Group Co-Chair. I was particularly delighted that a significant proportion of the EOIs came from our students, whose voice will contribute to where we’re going as an institution.
Given the number of EOIs, as a Steering Group we have created the opportunity of a new Community Reference Panel in addition to the Working Groups which will provide ongoing feedback to the Steering Committee.
Working Group and Reference Panel members heard from Christine Nixon this week ahead of beginning their 12-week sprint. Thank you also to Joel Radcliffe, the Head of the Respectful Relationships Unit and to Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Shannon Kenna for also sharing their expertise with group members.
In the weeks ahead the Working Groups will focus on identifying and crafting solutions based on frontline experience and expertise, considering what we’ve tried before, why things have or haven’t changed and what we can learn from and strengthen where our culture is strong and flourishing.
In my view this process is ANU at our best. ANU people working together using our talents, expertise and experience to produce solutions to our own challenges. Therefore if a Working Group or Panel member approaches you for input or assistance, I encourage you to contribute.
